Consisting of more than 30 coral islands, the Quirimbas Archipelago stretches from Pemba to the Rovuma River. The river makes for the natural border between Tanzania and Mozambique, and owing to its remoteness the area remains a relatively unexplored tropical tourist paradise. Some of the highlights of the archipelago include the Quilalea Marine Sanctuary, about 55km north of Pemba. This unique sanctuary is great for year-round mooring, and the numerous beaches offer wonderful walks and shell-collecting.
